The return of Temur Ketsbaia to Anorthosis marks an important chapter in the club’s history. The Georgian coach, who has served the “Kyria” both as a player and a manager, takes charge of the team for the third time, aiming to reorganize the squad and bring back success.
Player and Coach at Anorthosis
Temur Ketsbaia first arrived in Cyprus in 1991 and played for Anorthosis until 1994, scoring 39 goals in 76 appearances. He returned to the club in 2002–03 and, in 2003, took over as player-manager. Under his guidance, Anorthosis won the league in 2004–05 and 2007–08, as well as the Cypriot Cup in 2006–07.
Second Tenure and European Success
Ketsbaia’s second spell at Anorthosis (2019–2022) was also marked by notable achievements. The team won the Cypriot Cup in 2021 and participated in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage during the 2021–22 season, delivering impressive performances.
Cyprus National Team and Challenges
In 2022, Ketsbaia took charge of the Cyprus national team. Despite his efforts, the team failed to achieve the desired results, finishing last in its group in both the UEFA Nations League and the Euro 2024 qualifiers. His contract with the Cyprus Football Association ended in September 2024.
Return to Anorthosis in 2025
On September 7, 2025, Temur Ketsbaia returns to Anorthosis for a third time. The club’s management, under the leadership of President Kyriakos Prastitis, personally oversaw his return, emphasizing the need for renewal and reorganization of the squad.
Ketsbaia’s comeback brings new hope to the team. With his experience and passion, he is expected to bring a fresh energy to the squad and improve the team in all areas.
